Press Release: Local Race Promoter Organizes Fundraiser for Big Bear Trails

Big Bear Lake, California. Back on July 30th, 2017, the first Mountaintop Trail Rally was held to raise funds specifically for non-motorized recreational trails in the Big Bear Valley. Local Race Promoter Team Big Bear, owned and led by Mountain Bike Hall of Famer Tom Spiegel, was the lead driver of the event, and says “We’ve always helped out behind the scenes, but it’s time people see us event promoters giving back more visibly”.

After all of the event costs were subtracted, the total amount raised was $8,242, a large amount for a first time fundraiser. According to Bennett Rossell, non-motorized trails coordinator for the Big Bear Valley, “The Forest Service just doesn’t have the funds to keep up with the public demands on trails in Big Bear. Fundraisers like this are a great way to not only raise needed funds, but provide awareness of the need to give back to our trails”.

The 2017 Mountaintop Trail Rally was a partnership event run by the Southern California Mountains Foundation and the Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation. Helping out greatly with this event were all the volunteers and participants. A big thank you goes to partners and sponsors the City of Big Bear Lake, ESI Grips, Big Bear Mountain Resorts, Bike for Bender, Girlz Gone Riding, Kodiak Kids Trail Run Series, the Sierra Club, BigBear.Com, and Big Bear Cycling. Look for the return of this event in 2018.
