Working together with the Southern California Mountains Foundation, we here at the Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation have been working hard for the last couple of years towards presenting to the Forest Service a proposal for New Trails in our area. This plan addresses the many user-created trails in our area, allows for connector trails, and potentially introduces close to 100 miles of trail into the Forest System in the Big Bear Valley area.

With this, we’re getting closer to new trails, but need feedback from YOU and YOUR TRAIL FRIENDS.

We have an Open House this next Wednesday, March 22nd, and again Wednesday, April 26th, from 4:30-5:30pm at the Discovery Center, on North Shore Drive in Big Bear. We will have detailed maps of possible trails touching all of the neighborhoods in the Big Bear Valley ready to be viewed and commented upon. This rough start of a complete trail network needs your opinion and neighborhood knowledge to keep moving towards full community support.

This will be a community based proposal given to the Forest Service, so it’s vitally important that ALL TRAIL USERS, from hikers and equestrians, to mountain bikers, runners, and even motorized users, attend to give feedback. The Forest Service is very interested in listening to the public, especially when we can work together to address trail issues in our forest.

We hope to see you at the Open House, and we are hopeful that you will encourage all of your trail friends to attend as well. Please let me know as you have more questions, or if you can’t make the meetings but would still like to view the plans and offer feedback.
